I remember when Jennifer, from Perfectly Planned, texted me to see if I was available to do a surprise proposal at George Bush Library. First because I LOVE GBL but even more so because I LOVE surprise proposals! It reminds me of my own (which I ruined— a story for another time). I woke up on Sunday morning and was a little concerned because the weather wasn’t perfect but that didn’t stop Jennifer from setting up the most perfect spot under the gazebo at the library. Despite the sky being overcast and the wind whipping every which way, Tyler and Kendyll’s proposal was sheer perfection. They literally lit up the world with their smiles, love, and excitement.
Tyler brought Kendyll around the pond to where the gazebo was and to make sure she didn’t see the set up he told her to look at the menu on his phone for their lunch afterwards. Smooth points go to Tyler. Actually, smooth points go to Tyler for the entire thing! He did such an amazing job communicating his vision us. I may or may not have almost fell face first into the bushes trying to hide until the very last second to stand up and capture their proposal. When they walked up to the gazebo Tyler grabbed his Bible off of the table and began to read a scripture to Kendyll about love. It was so sweet and the perfect touch. After he read her the scripture he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Of course she said “YES!” I’m so honored that I was able to be the one to capture this special moment for them. Afterwards we took a few engagement photos for them to have to capture the newly engaged bliss that was evident on both of their faces.
While Jennifer and I were at George Bush Library with Kendyll and Tyler; Kendyll and Tyler’s family and friends were setting up their surprise engagement party at The Boathouse at Millican Reserve. I rushed to beat them to the party so that I could capture their entrance and all the excitement that was to follow! There were hugs, kisses, crying, smiling, and of course drooling over the BEAUTIFUL ring that Tyler designed (make sure you scroll down to see it…it’s GORGEOUS!) Their family and friends were there to greet them and celebrate this special milestone. The moments that stuck out to me the most were Kendyll seeing her dad for the first time after the engagement. Both of them just held each other and it was such a sweet and precious moment. It again took me back to the night before I got married and my dad held me and cried. The second moment was that Kendyll’s aunt said a blessing over the newly engaged couple that gave me all the feels. I think we forget a lot of times that Christ should be at the center of our marriages and I was so happy to see that blessing was prayed over them in this new season.
