So once upon a time (about 6 years ago) I had a 9 month old little girl named Allison and I just thought that I needed a little more excitement in my life so we adopted a dog. In comes Cooper. This sweet little pooched batted is ridiculously long lashes and our hearts were stolen forever! We decided that we wanted to adopt a dog instead of buying one just because well, Sara McLaughlin (need I say more). Anyways, we found the most awesome rescue out of Houston, Cocker Spaniel Rescue, and were introduced to sweet Cooper. We met up with his foster mom and immediately fell in love. We started the process to take him home and while adoption is not always the easy route (you never know what their situation was before) we knew he was meant to be ours.
We eventually got final approval and were able to take him home and were able to really get to know him. We quickly found out that he is use to table scraps, like I-found-this-dog-on-top-of-the-table-eating-our-supper-before-we-could-sit-down use to table scraps. Eating-food-straight-out-of-Allison’s-hands use to table scraps. I could go on and on. We have worked really hard to break him of this habit but apparently somethings are hard to change, because 6 years later and it’s still his M.O. We have gotten smarter about making sure stools and chairs are pushed all the way in and food is not left at anything lower than counter height because otherwise it will be GONE.
We also discovered that Cooper is a licker. He licks incessantly. The couch, the bed, his paws, my feet, the floor, the cat; you name it he licks it. Blech. When I was pregnant with Madelyn I would lay awake during my insomniac periods and be so irritated that I’d have to lock him out of the bedroom just to get some peace. There were several times I wish I could take away his “licker license”
See what I did there?
Yes, I’m that girl. Terrible at jokes.
Cooper although has some more than interesting qualities, he is for sure the best dog we could have ever asked for. He is so incredibly sweet with the girls and was so protective of them from such a young age. He’s 800 years old now and a slightly grouchy old man but he is the most patient dog I’ve ever seen. Madelyn, who am I kidding, Allison can lay all over him and jump all over him and he just lets her. If he ever does get grumpy enough with her to growl at her, he immediately will lick her in the face to say he’s sorry. awwwww
Our sweet pup-a-lup has been such the perfect addition to our family!
